Black Hills Retired School Personnel (formerly known as Black Hills Retired Teachers Association - BHRTA) is affiliated with the SD Retired School Personnel, National Retired Teachers and American Association of Retired Persons.

- To acquaint members with the many service that national, state and local associations provide for them.
- To give members the opportunity to use their talents for the educational, social and civic growth of the community.

- Our state association (South Dakota Retired School Personnel) has a state lobbyist who, during the legislative session, monitors bills that affect our monthly retirement benefits
- There is a state convention each spring with local tours, speakers and entertainment.
- Our unit administers 3 college scholarships for future teachers.
- We sponsor a grandparent writing contest for 5th graders.
- Out volunteer opportunities include teaching at the "Living History School" at Keystone, packing backpacks, projects at Boys Club, working at the Kid Fair, supporting Starting Strong and participating in Clean-Up Rapid City.
- It is fun to socialize at monthly meetings (with exciting speakers), meet for a picnic in August, a holiday luncheon and May dinner.
